My Weekly Cleaning Routine To Boost Productivty and Reduce the Overwhelm.

My Simple Weekly Cleaning Routine

I'll be the first to admit — I don't deep clean my house every weekend. Honestly, I don't think that's realistic for most of us.

Between work, clients, content creation, family, and trying to have a life outside of all of that, I've learned that consistency beats perfection every single time.

So instead of dedicating an entire Saturday to cleaning from top to bottom, I have a simple routine that helps me reset my home each week. It keeps things manageable, makes my home feel fresh, and surprisingly helps me feel more productive throughout the week.

  1. Always Start With Laundry

The very first thing I do is strip the beds and start a load of laundry. There's just something about climbing into freshly washed sheets at the end of a long day that makes the whole house feel reset. I've used Gain Laundry Detergent and Fabric Softener for years, and honestly, I don't see myself switching anytime soon. That scent is just "home" to me.

If I'm washing towels or workout clothes, I'll usually toss in Downy Unstopables In-Wash Scent Boosters (No. 26) because they keep everything smelling fresh for days!

And because I'm notorious for finding mystery stains after something comes out of the dryer, I always keep Shout Stain Remover nearby. The Shout Color Catcher Transfer Sheets have also saved a few loads from accidental color bleeding more times than I'd like to admit.

Once everything is clean, I toss it into my woven laundry basket and move on to the next room while the washer does the work!

2. Reset The Kitchen & Bathrooms

These are the spaces that get the most use during the week, so I like to freshen them up before they have a chance to become overwhelming.

I wipe down the countertops, clean the sink, put away anything that's accumulated, and give everything a quick disinfecting.

One product you'll always find under my sink is Dawn Dish Soap. It's one of those simple products that somehow works on just about everything.

For countertops, cabinet handles, light switches, and other high-touch surfaces, I reach for a good ole Mrs. Meyer’s Antibacterial Spray or Clorox Bleach Spray. It gives me peace of mind knowing everything has been wiped down after a busy week.

When it comes to the bathrooms, I'm a huge fan of the Clorox ToiletWand System. If you've never used one before, it honestly makes cleaning the toilet so much easier and a little less gross. I'll quickly wipe down the mirrors, counters, and faucets, empty the trash, and call it done.

Nothing fancy. Just a fresh reset.

3. The Quick Dusting

This probably takes me ten minutes, if that. I grab my handy Swiffer Duster and make my way around the house!

  • Coffee table.

  • Nightstands.

  • TV stand.

  • Bookshelves.

  • My desk.

It's amazing how much cleaner a room feels after simply wiping away a week's worth of dust and fingerprints.

Sometimes it's the little things that make the biggest difference.

4. Clean Floors = Instant Reset

If I had to choose one thing that instantly makes my home feel cleaner, it's freshly cleaned floors. Even if nothing else has been done yet. I usually start by vacuuming everything first, especially around the baseboards and under the dining table where crumbs somehow always seem to appear.

Then I pull out my O-Cedar Spin Mop which has genuinely become one of my favorite cleaning purchases, and you can never forget the Fabuloso. The Lavendar scent has always been my favorite and brings back so many nostalgic memories for how my mom used to clean growing up. Although her personal favorite was Pinesol, which was the go-to back in the days!

It doesn't take long, but once the floors are done, the entire house immediately feels more fresh, lighter, and put together.

5. Forget The Refrigerator

This one isn't glamorous... but future me is always thankful that I did it. Before grocery shopping, I take about five minutes to go through the refrigerator.

I'll toss anything that's expired, wipe down the shelves if needed, and clean everything including egg organizer, fruit & veggie storage, lunch meat storage, juice/liquid dispensers, etc.

It's saved me from buying duplicate groceries more times than I can count, and it helps reduce food waste too.

6. Finally, End With A Closet Reset

Notice I didn't say "organize." I simply tidy. I hang up the clothes that somehow ended up on the chair. Straighten my shoes. Fold a few sweaters. Put things back where they belong, that's it. I've realized that spending just five minutes resetting my closet every week prevents me from needing an entire afternoon to reorganize it later. Sometimes it's those small habits that make the biggest impact.

At the end of my routine, I'll usually spray a little room mist, light a candle, or open the blinds and let some natural light in.

And every single time, I think the same thing:

"This feels so much better."

Not because my house is perfect. But because it feels peaceful. And for me, that's really the goal.

Creating a home that supports my life — not another thing on my to-do list.

A Little Reminder Before You Go...

If your home feels overwhelming right now, you don't have to tackle everything at once.

Start the laundry. Clear one countertop. Mop the floors. Give yourself 10 minutes to straighten the closet you've been avoiding.

Sometimes a few small resets are all it takes to make your home—and your week—feel a little more manageable.

My goal with Simple Homemaking isn't to create a perfectly styled, perfectly organized home. It's to find simple routines, products, and systems that make everyday life easier and give us more time to actually enjoy the spaces we've worked so hard to create.

I've linked some of my favorite cleaning and organization products throughout this post if you'd like to try any of them in your own routine. And if you have a product that's been a staple in your home for years, send it my way—I’m always looking for another good find!

Because a beautiful home isn't about perfection. It's about creating simple systems that give you more time to enjoy the life happening inside it.
